Very clever modelling. :)
It looks like you have applied a higher-than-usual ambient value to
the scene somehow. Is this so? It looks fine, but contributes a lot
of gray tones to the colors, which gives it a washed-out sort of look.
Maybe you could accomplish the same thing with radiosity?
Neat image and good concept.
